A few months back I was flipping through the newspaper and came across an ad for a new shop in town. It said that it was a natural parenting store that sold cloth diapers. I'd never done, nor even considered cloth diapering but the name "Healthy Heinys" stuck in my head. That same day I passed the new shop while leaving the Clinton Farmer's Market. I left the kids in the giants stroller with my mom while I ran in to see this store. I can remember thinking, "Amber, what are you going in here for?" and once I got through the door I saw so many cute things my head almost exploded. This was my first experience with cloth diapers and the beginning of my, well... obsession.

Bonnie, co-owner of Healthy Heinys led me around the store, answering my many questions- How does this work? What's a prefold? Do you have to wash them in a special way? Honestly, it was a blur but I left there with pamphlets and a head full of curiosity. I was back two weeks later with a ton more questions, this time for Tanya (also co-owner). Tanya took over an hour explaining things to me. What an education I got that day! I've been hooked ever since. My cloth diaper "conversion" started at Healthy Heinys! Thanks ladies!

Healthy Heinys started out of Tanya's home in 2010 and they opened up shop in the village of Clinton, NY June of 2011. When Tanya's son Caleb was born, there was no place locally where she or other moms could look at cloth diapers before buying them. She found that there were many moms who wanted to use cloth and she decided to open her own shop with her mother. Their mission (aside from selling a variety of cloth diapering products) is to offer educational classes for the community, host social gatherings and family activities. Currently Healthy Heinys hosts A Time for Music classes, Kindermusik, cloth diapering class and walking groups. In the weeks and months to come they have plans to have classes in Baby Sign, Infant Massage, Story Time and Baby Wearing. Healthy Heinys features natural parenting products, health/body products and toys in addition to cloth diapers.
